those shoes will wear out

so go get some more

I recently pondered over the reality that I wear size 15 shoes. As I noted, my options are limited in the search for size 15. But that’s okay, since it’s necessary to discard many other choices — many other possibilities. I’m not exactly overcome with alternatives.

There is a problem, however. Shoes, regardless of the size, do not last forever. They have an end date. Sometimes the sole gets worn out. Maybe the insole comes loose. Perhaps the tongue loses its ability to speak!

As just noted, they don’t last forever. So what can be done?

The shoes a cobbler can repair is limited. Unfortunately, most of the worn-out footwear winds up in a landfill. A small percentage is recycled. So again, what can be done?

Go get some more!

But this time, get some size 15s unlike the ones before. Get the size 15s you never imagined trying on. Maybe people have told you, “Don’t wear those! You have no idea what you’re doing! You will just fail!”

Maybe we have said that to ourselves. “I can’t do it. They won’t fit. I’ll just let everybody down — I’ll let myself down.”

I will let God down.

Ignore those voices. Is there a size 15 you’ve always wanted to try? Put it on. Is there a size 15 you haven’t dared? Just do it. Is there a size 15 that looks so fragile trying it out will shred it? Maybe it needs just one chance to win the race.

Put on those size 15s (or maybe you’re a size 5 or size 10) and walk out into the world. Let them take you to places you’ve never been. The size 15s will bring you close to some people — and take you away from others.

again, my size 15 Timberlands

If the shoe fits, wear it!
